In July 2021, Mauritius reopened its borders, originally with a “resort bubble” idea in which visitors were required to stay quarantined at their resort for the first 14 days following arrival. The resort bubble stay has been shortened to 7 days as of September 1. And in October 2021, the Indian Ocean island nation has eased the entry requirements for fully vaccinated travelers around the world, thanks to rigorous health and safety protocols and an astonishingly high vaccination rate.

Mauritius Travel Requirements 

Fully Vaccinated Travelers

Travelers who have been fully vaccinated will no longer be required to do the quarantine process and will be able to enjoy everything the island has to offer as soon as they arrive if they meet the Mauritius travel requirements:

1. To freely tour the island and its attractions during your vacation, you must be fully vaccinated.
2. A valid visa to enter Mauritius. Depending on your purpose of visiting the island, you have to provide a valid entry visa to Mauritius. Check out the next section below to know more about the documentation needed and the type of Mauritius visa you need.
3. COVID-19 travel insurance is required by law for foreign travelers. However, Mauritian citizens, resident permit holders, and occupational permit holders are exempted.
4. You must provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before you enter Mauritius.
5. COVID-19 antigen test will be required on your arrival day (day 0) at the hotel and the fifth day of your stay. These tests will be chargeable subject according to your hotel’s policy. If you receive a negative antigen test result on day 0, you are free to explore the island.
6. Before or during your flight to Mauritius, all passengers must complete the required health forms. Fill out the ALL IN ONE FORM in this link. After you have completed the form, it will create a PDF document that you may print, sign, and bring with you. Upon arrival in Mauritius, you will be asked to provide this documentation by the immigration and local health officials.

Unvaccinated and Not-Fully Vaccinated Travelers

If you are not yet COVID-19 vaccinated for various reasons or you have only received half of the suggested doses, you can still visit Mauritius under these conditions:

1. You must be able to provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departing to Mauritius. 
2. A 14-nights pre-paid booking in an official quarantine hotel, including meals and transfers. For the first 14 nights, you must be quarantined in your hotel room, and meals will be served in your room. Check out this link for an approved quarantine hotels list.
3. COVID-19 travel insurance is required by law for foreign travelers. However, Mauritian citizens, resident permit holders, and occupational permit holders are exempted.
4. A PCR test will be performed on your arrival (day 0), day 7, and day 14 of your stay. All three PCR tests will cost Rs 12,000 each.
5. After a negative PCR test on day 14, you are free to explore the island and find another lodging, or you can return home.
