Mauritius official language is English<\/strong> but the most spoken languages are French<\/strong> and Creole<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Time difference<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Mauritian time is\u00a04\u00a0hours ahead of the GTM time<\/strong>. For example,\u00a0when it is 9 AM\u00a0in Mauritius, it is 0 AM in New York, 5 AM in London, 1 PM in Singapore and 4 PM in Sydney.<\/p>\n

Money<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Currency in Mauritius is Mauritian Rupee. US$1=Rs36<\/strong>. Be aware that it\u00a0is common practice to bargain in markets, for taxis and some hotels. Moreover, credit card is widely accepted and atm machines can be found everywhere.<\/p>\n

Budget \/ person \/ day<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

– Low budget around\u00a0$30 (Rs1000)\u00a0<\/u>: simple guesthouse\u00a0(Rs800) + simple meals (Rs200) + bus (Rs20)<\/p>\n

– Moderate budget around\u00a0$100<\/u>\u00a0(Rs3500)\u00a0<\/u>: good hotel (Rs1500) + meals at good\u00a0restaurants (Rs500) + car rental\u00a0(Rs1500)<\/p>\n

– High budget around\u00a0$230<\/u>\u00a0(Rs8000)<\/u>: high-end hotel\u00a0(Rs4000) + meals at luxurious restaurants\u00a0(Rs1000) + taxi everyday\u00a0(Rs3000)<\/p>\n

In Mauritius, most of the plugs are type C<\/strong> (French type with 2 plugs) or sometimes type G<\/strong> (English type with 3 plugs).<\/p>\n

Visa & Passport<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

– Visa<\/u>: for a stay less than 3 months, citizens of most countries (including European Union members) don’t need any visa.<\/p>\n

– Passport<\/u>: your passport must still be valid after\u00a0the date on the\u00a0return ticket.<\/p>\n

– Return ticket<\/u>: your\u00a0return ticket must be purchased before departure.<\/p>\n

There are\u00a0no hostilities<\/strong> of any kind in Mauritius.<\/p>\n

But for any problem encountered, call the tourist police at (+230) 213 1740.<\/p>\n

Health & Water<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

You can find many hospitals and pharmacies<\/strong>\u00a0throughout the island. Good to know: in public hospitals, medical care are complimentary for both Mauritians and foreigners!<\/p>\n

No vaccinations are officially required, but hepatitis A and B immunisations are recommended.<\/p>\n

Tap water is safe to drink<\/strong> (except in Rodrigues). Do note that when a cyclone happens, it’s advisable to drink bottled water instead.<\/p>\n
